Medications

Use Medications to keep medicine details reusable for prescription workflows. Each record can include a scientific name and variations for brand, strength, form, route, and dosage instructions, helping clinicians start with consistent details instead of entering them again. These references do not create or issue a prescription for a patient.

You need access to References → Medications. To change a list, you must own it or have edit access and the correct References permission.

Choose or create a medication list

  1. Open References → Medications.
  2. Select a list abbreviation, or choose Add medications list.
  3. Enter List name, Abbreviation, and an optional Description.
  4. Set Public list according to who in the clinic should be able to use it.
  5. Choose Add list.
Medication entries are organized into lists within the selected clinic.

Use Search medications to find entries in the selected list. Use Previous and Next to see more results. Clear the search before deciding that the list is empty.

Add a medication

  1. Select the list and choose Add medication.
  2. Enter the Scientific name.
  3. Add general Notes if needed.
  4. Choose Add variation when you want to describe a particular preparation.
  5. Fill the variation’s Brand name, Strength and unit, Form, Route, and any variation-specific Notes.
  6. Choose Save after reviewing the complete entry.
Each variation keeps its own preparation details and optional dosage instructions.

A scientific name is required. If you add a variation, choose a valid strength, unit, form, and route. Wait for these choices to load before saving.

Add reusable dosage instructions

Within a variation, use Dosage to add an instruction. Choose the input that matches the information you intend to store:

  • Custom accepts written dosage instructions.
  • Interval uses Every with a value and unit, with an optional For duration. Available time units include minutes, hours, and days.

Use the delete control to remove an unwanted dosage row and Remove variation to remove an unwanted preparation. Save the medication after making the changes.

Store instructions approved for your clinic’s reference library. A clinician still needs to check the selected preparation and instructions when prescribing for an individual patient.

Edit, share, or delete

Click a medication row to open its details. Change its scientific name, notes, variations, or dosage rows, then choose Save. To edit a list, choose Edit (the pencil-in-a-square icon) beside the list abbreviations, after Share, and change its name, abbreviation, description, or Public list setting. To delete a medication, choose the trash-can icon at the far end of its row and confirm.

To share a list, select it and choose Share (the icon showing three connected dots) immediately after the list buttons above the table. On a narrow screen, scroll the row horizontally if the icon is out of view. Give clinic members view-only or edit access, then choose Save. The owner cannot be removed, and only the owner can change Public list. Public means available inside the clinic, not on the internet.

To remove the whole medications list, open its editor with Edit (the pencil-in-a-square icon) beside the list abbreviations, then choose the labeled Delete list button in the dialog footer. Review the named list before confirming; all medications in that list are removed.

If an entry will not save

Check that the scientific name is present, each remaining variation has its required selectors, and a dosage row uses one instruction mode. Remove an unfinished dosage row if you do not intend to keep it. If the list is read-only, ask its owner for edit access or create a list you can maintain.

Use these entries when building Prescriptions.
